Saints QB Drew Brees will probably retire after the postseason race

Drew Brees is preparing for what could be his last race with the New Orleans Saints.

With Saints starting their postseason Sunday afternoon against the Chicago Bears, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on NFL GameDay Morning that Brees will probably retire after the season.

“I haven’t spoken to anyone yet who believes Drew Brees will play in 2021,” said Rapoport. “He did not make his decision clear, he did not definitively announce that he will retire after the playoffs, but it certainly seems that way.

“As you mentioned, he has a contract with NBC waiting. (He) may have done it last year, (but) decided to come back this year and give one last ride, see if he can ride until sunset, finish his season on a podium holding a trophy. And this is another reason, by the way, the team wanted to take a look at Taysom Hill when Drew Brees was out with about 35 rib fractures, just to see what they have next year as a position defender. This is still in progress and of course, we’ll see how Brees ends. “

The 42-year-old former player completed his twentieth regular season in the NFL and was named to the Hall of Fame five years after he left. Among a multitude of records, Brees holds the mark of more career pass yards and more career pass conclusions in NFL history.

Brees reportedly almost retired after last season, but decided to try again to pursue a second Lombardi Trophy.

The search for the second Super Bowl appearance starts today.
