Long Island saw a further increase in the positive COVID-19 infection rate, along with more than 3,700 new cases reported, according to data released by the New York State Department of Health on Saturday, January 9.
There were 2,002 new cases in Suffolk County and another 1,742 in Nassau, for a total of 3,744.
The rate of positive infection on Long Island in the past three days is as follows.
- Wednesday, January 6: 9.51 percent
- Thursday, January 7: 9.68 percent
- Friday, January 8: 9.70 percent
There are a total of 1,544 hospitalizations on Long Island on Saturday, with approximately 26% of hospital beds still available in Nassau and Suffolk.
There are currently 698 patients with COVID-19 being treated in 850 ICU units on Long Island, with 18 percent of these beds still available. This represents a 6% drop in the number of ICU beds available for a week.
A new daily record of 258,031 COVID tests was administered in the state of New York on Friday.
There have been 23 COVID-related deaths recently reported on Long Island – 15 in Suffolk County and eight in Nassau County, and 188 across the state. There have already been 31,519 COVID deaths across the state during the pandemic.
