On Saturday night, the Southeast Conference announced that the men’s basketball competition between Tennessee and South Carolina on January 12 was postponed. due to a “combination of positive tests, contact tracking and subsequent quarantine of individuals within the South Carolina basketball program”. On Thursday, the Gamecocks (3-2, 1-0) were forced to pause all team activities and postpone Saturday’s competition against Ole Miss for the same reason.
This marks the third conference game that Gamecocks have had to postpone due to the COVID-19 protocols. The scheduled debut for the Kentucky conference on December 29 could not be played. Frank Martin’s team came out of quarantine and isolation in time to play Florida A&M on January 2 and Texas A&M on January 6, both winning at home at Colonial Life Arena.
In December alone, Gamecocks had to cancel three games outside the conference against Wofford (10 December), George Washington (19 December) and SC State (23 December). TThe December 19 contest with Clemson is currently considered labeled “postponed” on the team’s official schedule at GamecocksOnline.com, but that game is unlikely to be played.
