Sources – South Carolina Gamecocks hiring Western Kentucky Hilltoppers DC Clayton White

South Carolina is hiring Western Kentucky defensive coordinator Clayton White for the same role, sources confirmed to ESPN.

White agreed to join the team of the new Gamecocks manager, Shane Beamer. The 43-year-old has spent the past four seasons leading the defense of the WKU and has received several nominations for the Broyles Award (the country’s top assistant). Western Kentucky’s defense was ranked among the country’s top 25 in 2019.

White replaces Travaris Robinson, who on Saturday became the defense coach in Miami. South Carolina also sought out Mississippi state defensive coordinator Zach Arnett and others for the job, the sources said.

White is a former NC State linebacker who has played three seasons in the NFL. He trained defensive backs in Stanford, Western Michigan and elsewhere, and held special team coordinator positions at WKU, Connecticut and NC State before returning to the Western Kentucky team in 2017.

Yahoo Sports first reported White’s hiring in South Carolina.
