Hours before being arrested, Miya Ponsetto – better known now as “SoHo Karen” – gave an interview to “CBS This Morning” that ended with Ponsetto silencing the venerable broadcaster Gayle King.
Ponsetto was arrested in Ventura County on Thursday, days after New York police detectives were sent to California with an arrest warrant after a viral video showed her allegedly attacking Keyon Harrold Jr., a 14-year-old black teenager. that she accused of stealing her phone.
During the interview broadcast on Friday morning, Ponsetto is shown sitting outdoors next to his lawyer, Sharen Ghatan, wearing a baseball cap with the word “daddy” at the top. Ponsetto told King that he considers himself “super sweet”.
“I don’t feel like this is who I am,” she said.
“I was approaching the people who were leaving the hotel, because, in my mind, whoever is leaving is probably the one who is trying to steal my phone,” she explained to King when asked about her vantage point.
“I admit, yes, I could have approached the situation differently or maybe I didn’t yell at him like that and make him feel, you know, maybe somehow inferior.”
In the viral clip, she is seen pulling the boy to the floor after yelling at him about the whereabouts of his phone.
She also described the alleged attack as “a girl accusing a guy over a phone” and rationalized her conduct after accusing Grammy-winning jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold of “throwing me on the floor and pulling my hair and dragging me across the floor. “
The viral moment, however, arrives in the final seconds of the interview.
“You have to understand your actions that day,” said King. “You seem to have attacked this kid over the phone, and he didn’t even have the phone. You’re old enough to know better.”
At that point, Ponsetto interrupts her. “Okay, Gayle, enough,” she says, raising her hand to silence King.
Your lawyer can be heard whispering, “No, no, stop, stop” for Ponsetto.
