Beat a Twitter rival? After the ban, the president says he is in talks with other platforms – or he can launch his own

Why tweet when you can trump?

President Trump said on Friday that he is considering other social media platforms and may even create his own after being banned from Twitter following Wednesday’s United States Capitol riot.

He was also barred from posting to Facebook and Instagram – at least until the end of his term.

“As I have said for a long time, Twitter has gone even further by banning freedom of speech and, tonight, Twitter officials coordinated with Democrats and the radical left to remove my account from their platform, to silence me – and YOU, the 75 million great patriots who voted for me, “the president tweeted about his @Potus account instead of his personal @ReadDonaldTrump account – which he used almost exclusively before the ban.

“Twitter may be a private company,” continued the president, “but without the donation from the Section 230 government they would not have existed for long.”

The president added that he predicted that his words would be censored. Conservatives have long complained that social media sites like Twitter are biased against them in favor of liberals.

TWITTER SUSPENDS ACCOUNT @REALDONALDTRUMP PERMANENTLY

“We have been negotiating with several other sites and will have a big announcement soon, while also looking at the possibilities of building our own platform in the near future. We will not be SILENCED!”

Finally, he accused Twitter of working against free speech and, instead, “promoting a radical left platform where some of the world’s most cruel people can speak freely”.

“STAY TUNED!” he added.

Twitter quickly removed tweets from the @Potus account, citing its policy of banning users who try to circumvent it through other accounts.

Gab, an alternative to Twitter that was launched a few years ago and calls itself a “social network that defends freedom of expression, individual freedom and the new free flow of information online”, quickly seized the moment.

Gab founder and CEO Andrew Torba, a Trump supporter, wrote on the platform that the site has seen record traffic since the ban on the president of social media.

“More servers are being activated at this time,” wrote Torba on Friday. “Log traffic. Remember: we own our server hardware, it’s not as easy as pressing a button on a cloud hosting provider, but we can’t be banned from the servers we own! Please be patient. God is in control.”

Back on Twitter, MySpace – the popular social media site in the early 2000s – started to grow.

Even MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson, who left the company a few years ago, tweeted a meme that teased “@MYSPACETOM ABOUT TO GET A NEW FRIEND”.

Google also announced on Friday that it would suspend listing of the social media platform Parler on its Play Store due to a failure to moderate “shocking content” posted by riot-related users on Capitol Hill. Parler has become a popular Twitter alternative for many conservatives.

Apple would be considering similar actions.
