Up to this point, we haven’t heard much about Ford’s next compact Maverick pickup. The little we gathered came largely from this photo of a back door and some spy photos. But now, thanks to the forum members at MaverickTruckClub, we finally got a good look at the front end of the Oval Azul small truck offer.
You can’t deduce much from the image, like the ever-important scale of the truck, but at least we can get a good look at the headlights, the grille and the overall shape of the body. It is also clear that the truck will be offered in a double-cab layout, although previous reports indicate that this may be it – no single cab here. This is quite typical of pickups today, although it is great to have a truly tiny Maverick.
As we already imagined, the new Maverick is probably based on the Bronco Sport platform and will therefore have front-wheel drive, with AWD available as an option. Like the Honda Ridgeline, then. And since it is based on the Bronco Sport, it will probably share the 1.5 and 2.0 liter EcoBoost engines as well. This speculation was supported by previously leaked documents.
Other details also emerged, such as the truck’s assembly site in Hermosillo, Mexico, along with reports that it will share a good number of parts with Ford Transit Connect. It is hoped that while Transit does not offer a basic manual transmission, Maverick only does, which would be a good thing. As for the overall size of the vehicle, it is rumored to be at least 60 centimeters shorter than the Ranger, so a true compact.
In any case, it is good to finally see the new Ford small truck from the front, even if it is covered in camouflage. Fortunately, there is a version of Raptor. That would be cute.
