San Diego County is leading the vaccination of more frontline health workers, collaborating with regional partners UC San Diego Health, the Fathers and the city of San Diego to open the county’s first COVID-19 Super Vaccination Station.
Up to 5,000 health professionals per day to be vaccinated quickly and safely at the drive-up location. Health professionals must make an appointment online, provide proof that they are health professionals. President Nathan Fletcher brokered the agreement with the partners to join the oversized County “POD” pilot.
This new “POD” program (distribution point) being tested by the county is a way to quickly and safely vaccinate the 500,000 health professionals in our region qualified for Phase 1A-Level categories in the California state’s priority vaccine list . The county had previously established four small groups across the region that administered hundreds of vaccines to health professionals daily that will continue to operate, but the Super Vaccination Station will allow up to 5,000 doses of vaccines per day to be administered to healthcare professionals.
Nathan Fletcher, President of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, has been discussing forming a partnership with UC San Diego Health CEO Patty Maysent and UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep Kholsa. This partnership will help facilitate faster regional delivery of vaccines.

With UC San Diego Health supporting this new regional partnership, we will put vaccines in the arms of healthcare professionals much more quickly. We appreciate them; to the Fathers and Mayor of San Diego, Todd Gloria, for helping us make this a reality. “
As of Monday, January 11, 2021, the Super Vaccination Station it will be operating from 7 am to 7 pm, seven days a week, for health professionals (see list of who qualifies). Vaccines will only be administered to healthcare professionals who have scheduled an appointment online at www.VaccinationSuperStationSD.com. From the county Super Vaccination Station will be located in the Fathers-controlled Tailgate Lot, a large space located on Imperial Avenue near Petco Park. Health professionals must provide proof that they are health professionals when they arrive at the site. Health professionals will be able to remain in your vehicle to receive the vaccine injection and will remain in place for 15 minutes for follow-up, once they are released, they may leave.

President Fletcher says the county hopes to eventually replicate the “POD” model of oversized vaccination across San Diego County. No timetable has been set, but the President said that, as the model proves to be effective; and more doses of the vaccine become available and individuals designated for Tier 2 and Tier 3 are eligible, with the Super Vaccination Station model will be vital to distribute the vaccine to more people in a fast and safe environment.
The city of San Diego has joined the traffic control and security services of the San Diego Police Department.

San Diego County administered its first COVID-19 vaccines on December 16, 2020.
Quick tips for healthcare professionals who make an appointment at Vaccine Super Station
- Healthcare professionals are encouraged to contact their healthcare providers to request the vaccine, but if none are available, they should make an appointment with COVID-19 for the county. Vaccine Super Station
- Appointments are mandatory and must be made at www.VaccinationSuperStationSD.com
- Do not schedule an appointment if you have COVID-19 or are sick. Follow the CDC guidelines for these situations
- Medical professionals who administer the vaccine must wear personal protective equipment.
- Wear a mask
- Acceptable forms of proof to be submitted to the County Vaccine Center
- Employee identification badge with photo or other documents, including professional license and photo identification, letter signed by the employer on the facility’s letterhead and a photo ID; or a pay stub or timesheet from your health care or home support services with a photo ID
