The band paid tribute to the late legend for what would be their 74th birthday.
“My teenage life revolved around David Bowie,” said Simon Le Bon in a statement to Rolling Stone. “He’s the reason why I started writing songs. Part of me still cannot believe in his death five years ago, but maybe it is because there is a part of me where he is still alive and always will be.
“When we took Ziggy Stardust’s LP and put the needle in the groove, our first sample of its perfection was the song ‘Five Years’. I can’t begin to explain how I feel honored by Duran Duran for having the opportunity to present this icon, and for putting our name next to Bowie’s for this celebration of his music. “
The cover comes before Friday’s virtual tribute, “Just For One Day”, which also features Adam Lambert, Boy George, Michael C. Hall, Billy Corgan and more.
Bowie died of cancer in 2016.
