US sets new daily record, exceeds 4,000 deaths from coronavirus for the first time

On Friday, the United States once again reported a new record for daily deaths from coronavirus, rising from 4,000 for the first time.

The United States recorded 4,085 coronavirus deaths on Thursday, according to a Johns Hopkins University, overcoming the Previous record of 3,865 set on Wednesday.

Overall, the US has reported 365,208 deaths from coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. A forecast of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) predicts that 405,000 to 483,000 deaths will be reported by January 30.

The record comes as more states report new cases of a new, more aggressive strain of coronavirus. Georgia and Pennsylvania reported cases of infection involving the variant this week.

Experts say the strain is more contagious, but does not believe it is more fatal.

In the meantime, the United States is working to increase the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine after it got off to a slow start. Since January 7, more than 5.9 million people have received their first doses of vaccine.
