The red carpet was rolled up rather than rolled out. The lights were not so bright and the pomp and circumstance were attenuated on Thursday night. This did not stop some of the biggest stars in college football from taking center stage. The 2020-21 college football awards were presented in front of a national TV audience before the National College Football Playoff Championship between No. 1 in Alabama and No. 3 in Ohio State.
It is probably not a shock that Alabama players bet on hardware. The Heisman Trophy winner, DeVonta Smith, won the Maxwell Prize and the Walter Camp Prize, both awarded to the best player in the country. He also took home the Biletnikoff award given to the country’s largest wide receiver. Alabama quarterback Mac Jones took home the Davey O’Brien Award as the country’s best defender, running back Najee Harris won the Doak Walker Award for the best running back in the game and Landon Dickerson won the Rimington Award for best center of the nation. In all, 20 awards were presented on Thursday night.
