Jared Goff “good”, but the status for the Los Angeles Rams wild card game is uncertain

THOUSAND OAKS, California – “Good” was the word at the Los Angeles Rams training center on Thursday, when quarterback Jared Goff spoke to reporters for the first time since undergoing thumb surgery on his throwing hand on 28 December.

“It feels good,” said Goff. “It is progressing well, it is in a good place.”

It remains uncertain, however, whether Goff will start on Saturday when the Rams (10-6) face the Seattle Seahawks (12-4) in an NFL wild-card playoff game at Lumen Field.

Earlier in the week, Rams coach Sean McVay said he would not announce the titleholder before the game started and on Thursday, after the team’s last training session of the week, he kept his word.

“We’re going to work on it,” said McVay, “and we’ll see on Saturday.”

Said Goff: “I think that if I have to play at any time, I am ready to play and I continue to make good progress.”

For the second consecutive practice on Thursday, Goff was listed on the injury report as a limited participant, although McVay said he was able to do everything he was asked to do.

“He’s doing everything our practice allows,” said McVay. “There is nothing like simulating a game with all the things it entails, but in terms of handling the ball, throwing the ball, some of the things you may have concerns about, he did everything in his power to keep getting ready to go. “

During the nine-minute practice period open to reporters, Goff underwent routine warm-up exercises, completing short and medium pitches, then progressed to the work of the red zone by pitching to the receivers. His grip seemed strong and his passes were at normal speed. Goff said he took pictures in the center and that they felt “good”.

Although he was vague about the details of his recovery, performance of the practice and expectations for Saturday, Goff provided some details about his surgically repaired thumb, saying that some screws were inserted, but that he cannot feel them.

Reserve quarterback John Wolford won a victory in his first NFL game on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals and said he would be ready if he needed to play against the Seahawks.

“I am getting ready and will be ready to play if asked,” said Wolford, who passed 231 yards with an interception in Week 17.

Goff passed 3,952 yards and 20 touchdowns with 13 interceptions this season.

The Rams and Seahawks shared the series of the season, although the Seahawks’ 20-9 victory in Week 16 over the Rams gave them the division title.
