UFC fighter Irwin Rivera arrested and charged with attempted homicide in Florida

UFC fighter Irwin Rivera was arrested Thursday on two counts of attempted murder, according to an incident report obtained by ESPN.

He was fined just after noon ET after being detained by the Boynton Beach Police Department and is being held without bail, according to online arrest records.

Boynton Beach Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Slater told ESPN that Rivera is accused of stabbing her two sisters.

Boynton Beach police officers found two women – one aged 22 and the other 33 – with several knife wounds after being called to a residence, according to the incident report. The younger woman had sores on her back, head and arm. The older one had sores on her back, face, arms and hands. Both were alive and were rushed to a hospital.

One of the sisters told police that they were staying with her brother, Rivera, in one of their spare rooms and woke up with Rivera stabbing them repeatedly with a knife, according to the report.

Rivera fled the scene. The police contacted him at about 7 am Eastern time on Thursday morning and, according to the report, Rivera said, “I killed my sisters.” According to the report, Rivera told police that she entered her sisters’ room while they slept and stabbed them with a “bronze knife”. Rivera told the police that she believed she had killed her sisters and did so because that was her purpose, told to him by a “higher power”.

In a statement, the UFC said it was investigating the “extremely worrying” situation and would not offer to fight Rivera at this time.

“The UFC is aware of the recent incident involving Irwin Rivera and has subsequently received information from his management that he has shown behavior consistent with mental health problems,” says the UFC statement. “The allegations are extremely worrying and the organization is currently gathering additional information. The investigation is ongoing and any possible next steps, including disciplinary action or medical care, will be determined upon completion. In addition, the UFC informed Rivera management that he will not be offered a fight at this time. “

Rivera, 31, most recently fought at UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Woodley on September 19, losing in split decision to Andre Ewell. Rivera debuted in the UFC in May and won his first UFC win in August, beating Ali AlQaisi. Rivera is the former rooster champion of Titan FC.
