THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Los Angeles Rams activated the injured reserve left tackle Andrew Whitworth prior to his playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks, the Rams announced on Thursday.
Whitworth is due to return to his initial role on Saturday at Lumen Field in Seattle after suffering a tear in the PCL and MCL against the Seahawks at home in Week 10.
“I had some free time and whenever you are a veteran player it is good to take a short break for a while,” said Whitworth, who is in his 15th season. “It’s been difficult, it’s been a lot of work to recover, ups and downs, obviously, whenever you have an injury, but it’s good now.”
Whitworth returned to training last week, but was unable to guarantee that he would start on Saturday, emphasizing that he needed to get through the week’s training without any problems.
Rams coach Sean McVay said it has been “nice to be able to get the big guy out there”, adding that he would let Whitworth make the final decision on whether he is ready to play on Saturday.
The Rams (10-6) and Seahawks (12-4) shared their regular season series with both winning at home and the Seahawks winning the division title with a week 16 victory against the Rams.
It remains to be seen who will be the quarterback between Jared Goff and John Wolford, as Goff continues to recover from the December 28 surgery on the thumb of his throwing hand.
Goff launched training passes on Wednesday, but was listed as a limited participant in the injury report. McVay said he would not announce a starter before the game.
