A third member of the South Carolina technical team may be hunted.
News surfaced earlier today about hiring South Carolina offensive team members Mike Bobo and Will Friend. Bobo had been the offensive coordinator for a season in Columbia, while Friend was hired just a few weeks ago.
Now, it seems that the wear and tear on Shane Beamer’s team may not have passed. Mike Uva of WACH FOX Columbia reported that the current defensive technique, Tracy Rocker, is being courted by NFL organizations for professional employment.
Rocker is also ending his first season with the Gamecocks, after arriving in Columbia, Tennessee in 2020. Under his tutelage, the South Carolina defensive line recorded a drop of 14 sacks at the SEC, but saw JJ Enagbare record five quarterback crashes. about seven action games. That number was good for sixth in the conference, and his three forced fumbles led the league.
If Rocker escaped to the NFL, that would leave a defensive technical team without its coordinating, secondary and line coaches. This happened more than a month after Shane Beamer was hired in South Carolina.
Rocker has been a mainstay of the Southeastern Conference, having trained in Tennessee, Ole Miss, Georgia, Auburn, Arkansas and now on Gamecocks. He was also part of a professional team before, after a 2011-2013 season at the Tennessee Titans.
Rocker is an inheritance from Will Muschamp’s team in Columbia, as well as Mike Bobo. If he decides to leave, it would force Shane Beamer to intensify his search for the defensive technical team, since he would have only one member on that side of the ball.
