The divorce of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West is imminent, so they say, and we cannot deny that there were no signs that things were trending like this.
The couple known as Kimye has been plagued by rumors of divorce since their exaggerated marriage in 2014, even when they struggled to build their family and renewed their wedding vows on their fifth anniversary. But the renewal of the vote – in October 2019 – appears to have been a belated attempt to steady their unstable relationship, as things started to get worse after that.
Let’s be honest – they have went through it during their well-known, though relatively short, marriage. The rapper had a public meltdown, leading to a massive lawsuit for his abruptly canceled tour and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2017. Although this clearly hovered over them, the reality show star was told that she could die if she became pregnant again, which led to them turning to the surrogate during the last two pregnancies, and she had to go through five operations in a year to repair the damage caused by her pregnancies. Then there was Kardashian being the victim of armed robbery. All of this under the pressure of building their empires (worth more than a billion dollars combined), spending years of their marriage living with their mother, as well as sharing their lives nonstop in Following the Kardashians, social media, in interviews and on the red carpet.
They continued to prove that critics were wrong despite the bumps – joining magazine covers that described a so-called “perfect” life in their $ 60 million home, supporting each other in public feuds and controversies, having more children and taking every opportunity to show their great love for each other.
But just months after West paid Kenny G to serenade his wife on Valentine’s Day in 2019 – a crucial year for the couple – he invested $ 14 million in a ranch in Wyoming. This expensive purchase, in September 2019, seemed to go completely against the LA-born Kardashian lifestyle. Apart from the rustic photo shoots, it was very obvious that this would never be his base.
And yet, West then seemed to double his move to separate from his family, buying a second ranch in Wyoming two months later – and they began to live most of their lives apart from that point.
That same year, West began his Sunday services, with Kardashian showing support, and in October 2019, he announced that he had converted to Christianity. He was also not ashamed of that – in his music, tweets and visits to supercigers – but Kardashian did not follow the same spiritual path.
It seemed that their paths had diverged a lot until then. While she focused on law – trying to get through the order and doing a legal internship – his interest in politics grew. He had previously supported Donald Trump publicly, a rare celebrity to do so, declaring that they were the same with his “dragon energy”. (Kardashian made his own visits to Washington, DC, to talk to Trump about his prison reform crusade.)
West’s own political aspirations also grew and he announced his own candidacy for president (birthday party!) In July 2020. His first campaign event that month was a doozie, breaking any privacy pact between them by announcing that they had considered abort her first child, North West.
Things went south with their explosive comments that day – making it a very turbulent 2020 – with subsequent complaints on Twitter stating that Kardashian was trying to “lock me up” and saying he was trying to divorce her. He even compared his mother-in-law to a dictator. He also brought up Kardashian’s dinner in 2018 with Meek Mill, of which he was not happy. Kardashian, who was prevented from visiting him in Wyoming, made a public appeal for “compassion and empathy”, saying he was in the middle of a bipolar episode.
Although Kardashian finally arrived in Wyoming for face-to-face (tearful) conversations and they went on a family trip, they never seemed to have fully resolved things. He spent a fair amount on her 40th birthday gift – a hologram from her late father – but then missed almost all of her controversial birthday extravaganza in October, arriving for the last day or two.
We can’t imagine his real, closed-door reaction to him apparently peeing at the Grammy in September.
Us Weekly reports that the couple had a big explosion in early December. As a result, they haven’t “been together for weeks and haven’t vacationed together,” which was obvious from her family photo. They have been in counseling and want to reach an agreement before officially announcing the divorce.
Us Weekly also reported that Kardashian met with divorce lawyers in July – after public comments on abortion – “to explore and talk about divorce,” according to the source. At that time, she hired Laura Wasser, who a Kardashian source told the magazine that she has “been actively working for Kim since last summer”.
Kardashian knows the divorce well, this will be number three, and Wasser represented her in her messy divorce from Kris Humphries in 2012. Women have been tight enough that Wasser is a guest at Kardashian’s infamous Christmas party, posing at photo booth with the reality star.
Last February, Kardashian was the first guest on Wasser’s podcast.
And Wasser – who represented Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp and Britney Spears in the divorces – is now advising Kardashian in the West case.
Page Six was the first to sound the alarm about Kimye on Tuesday, with a source saying, “They are keeping a low profile, but they are finished.” The source said Kardashian tried to protect and help West during his mental health struggles, but she “grew a lot” and just “had enough”.
And he seems friendly to a source saying that West “is completely dominated by the whole family … He doesn’t want to have anything to do with them” – and he found E! reality show, now in its last season, “unbearable”.
