Alice Glass released the new song “Suffer and Swallow”, the first single from her next debut album, due out later this year.
The glitchy track deals with issues of claiming power over someone or something that apparently held control. “Suffer and swallow (suffer and swallow) / You know that there is no tomorrow (you know that there is no tomorrow) / I did it for you,” Glass sings ethereally in the chorus with a harsh and contrasting vocal backing echoing his lyrics. “Suffer and swallow (suffer and swallow) / I know what you are / I know what you are.”
In the accompanying animated video in stop-motion, directed by Lucas David, nightmare scenes happen when Glass appears as a Little Red Riding Hood doll that is attacked by worms, insects and other consuming entities while fixing what is necessary to survive.
Alice Glass previously released the single “Nightmares” on the experimental New York label Sermon 3 Recordings in 2020, as well as a remix of “Rajadão” by Pabllo Vittar. “Nightmares” appeared on the label’s compilation Sermon 4 Anniversary. In 2017, Glass released his first self-titled solo EP, which included the singles “Forgiveness” and “Without Love”.
