PS5 restocking scheduled for this week in the US, UK and Ireland

Sony reportedly will refuel the PlayStation 5 with restricted supply in the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland later this week.

Retailers in the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland expect to receive PlayStation 5 replenishes this week on January 7. Both recently launched consoles from Microsoft and Sony have proved difficult to buy in stores and online, but it seems that the supply for the newest PlayStation hardware is especially difficult to find.

The PS5 proved difficult to obtain in the weeks leading up to its arrival in November 2020, largely thanks to a pre-order breakdown caused by communication problems and limited stock. Of course, the global pandemic has made things worse. And the launch day was no better; those without pre-orders were informed in advance that in-store purchases would not be possible. In addition, the attempt to secure online orders seemed nothing short of a crapshoot, made up of money changers who have since made millions on the resale market.

Those who have so far missed out on purchasing a PlayStation 5 may soon be in luck. According to the Twitter user PS5 Central Stock, inventory is expected to be available this week in the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland. A subsequent tweet from the account states that retailers in the aforementioned regions are waiting to receive inventory by 7 January. If the stock does not arrive on time, another week may pass before shipments arrive.

We hope this means that more fans will soon be able to get their hands on the hardware. Either way, Sony has a big task ahead of it this year. Reports say the console has already passed four million units worldwide, while others indicate that Sony expects to ship at least 18 million units to retailers by the end of the year. Whether these high expectations can be met, no one knows, but these numbers suggest a potentially more impressive sales trajectory than the PS4’s record success.

However, not all news related to PS5 sales is positive, especially from Sony’s point of view. As of now, the new hardware has yet to move the needle in Japan, Sony’s country. According to a GamesIndustry.biz Japan Edition, the pace of PS5 sales in the region makes it Sony’s best-selling home console in Japan so far. In the event that this slow start does not gain momentum, it is possible that PS5 sales in Japan will reach only half of what the PS4 has achieved in its life cycle.
