The pair then noticed Luke Voskresensky, 40, who was naked and clinging to a tree. He had swollen feet, cuts across his body and was covered in mud, 9News reported.
Voskresensky was wanted for allegedly violating bail in an armed robbery. He got rid of an anklet that monitored his whereabouts days earlier, according to 9News.
The two men told 9News that Voskresensky had lived in the mangrove for four days. He begged for water and told the couple he was “living on snails”.
Voskrensky said he got stuck after getting lost on the way to a New Year’s party, according to 9News.
Faust and Joiner told 9News that Voskresensky was happy to be rescued. They gave the fugitive a cold beer and Fausto lent the man his shorts.
The canals around Darwin are inhabited by crocodiles, and the East Point area is a nesting place for reptiles.
After arriving at the coast, the two men called an ambulance, reported 9News. Voskresensky was arrested and is being treated for exposure at the Royal Darwin Hospital.
“He is in the hospital handcuffed with two policemen looking after him,” Faust told 9News.
