Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich is familiar with Bills Stadium, where his football team will play on Saturday afternoon in a Wild Card playoff match.
He led the biggest recovery in NFL history in 1993, when he gave the defender Bills to overcome a 32-point deficit to beat Buffalo Bills in their playoff game against the Houston Oilers. Reich was a reserve quarterback behind Jim Kelly for nine seasons from 1985-1994.
Reich said this week, before the game Bills vs. Colts, who still has fond memories of Buffalo, where two of his daughters were born.
“Obviously, it is a special place for Linda (Reich’s wife), me and our family,” he said. “But this is a business trip. Fortunately, I have returned to Buffalo a few times since then as a player and as a coach. So, I feel like I took all of that out of my system. “

“I will always love Buffalo and I will always be a Bills fan,” said Reich. “Except this Saturday. I was a fan of Bills on Sunday, and they did us good. “
Reich also shared that he has a personal relationship with current Bills coach Sean McDermott. He watched from a distance as McDermott quickly turned the organization into constant playoff candidates since becoming head coach in 2017.
McDermott (38) overtook Chuck Knox on Sunday and became the third most winning coach of all time, behind Lou Saban (68) and Marv Levy (112). The Bills have not been as good as under McDermott since Reich played for Levy in the 1990s.
“(The Bills are) One of the hottest teams, if not the hottest team in the NFL. I have a lot of respect for the Bills, ”said Reich. “I know Sean McDermott quite well – he is one of the (most) respected coaches in this league. He’s at the top of the list, in the category of guys I respect in this league and in the way he trains. Just who he is as a leader and as a person. “
