If the Pixel 5 system sounds are annoyingly loud, a new update may fix the problem

As part of the Pixel updates in January, Google may have fixed an issue that meant that the Pixel 5 system sounds could be much louder than you would like.

Since the release of Pixel 5 in October, several users on Reddit and Google’s own support forums have reported that the sounds of the Pixel 5 system (such as the camera shutter or the sound you hear when taking a screenshot) can be very loud, even when the phone volume has been adjusted to a lower level.

In the release notes for Pixel’s January updates, however, Google says the Pixel 5 specific update includes “more tweaks and improvements to the volume level of the system’s sounds”. Some Reddit users have reported that system sounds are much quieter after installing the update, although some say the sounds are too quiet now.

The release notes also list other changes, including improvements to automatic brightness on the Pixel 4A, 4A 5G and 5. Here is Google’s complete list of “notable fixes” in the January updates:
