Former Spirit Airlines CEO Ben Baldanza predicts there will be a decline in business travel and airlines will have to rely more on leisure travel for revenue.
The industry trade group Airlines for America is asking the Trump government to lift certain entry restrictions for international travelers, while advocating measures that would require more passengers to take a COVID-19 test before boarding a flight.
The group, which represents most of the major airlines in the United States, said in a letter to Vice President Mike Pence that travel restrictions should be removed and superseded by a global testing program, which would provide “another layer of security. on the trip”.
“We believe that a well-planned program focused on increasing traveler testing to the United States will promote these goals far more effectively than the general travel restrictions currently in place,” the group wrote.

The United States currently restricts the entry of passengers from Europe, the United Kingdom and Brazil, which are the three Airlines for America countries mentioned in their defense.
After a new variant of the virus was discovered in Britain, the United States began asking travelers entering the country to give a negative test result before flying.
Several airlines are offering coronavirus tests to help passengers feel safer while boarding. Some destinations require travelers to take a test – or they will need to be quarantined upon arrival.
Airlines are among the top industries devastated by the coronavirus pandemic, which has substantially reduced travel.
