Gamecocks basketball teams receive first NET ratings

NET’s first ranking for the 2020-21 college basketball season was released on Monday. The South Carolina men’s basketball team comes in 103rd, while the women’s team is fifth.

Frank MartinThe squad has been limited to four games since the start of the season on November 28. They have a 2-2 record with a neutral court win over Tulsa (No. 66 on NET) and a home win over Florida A&M (No. 213 on NET) and a neutral court loss to Liberty (No. 70 on NET) and a loss on the road to Houston (No. 8 on NET).

The NET men’s team is the 11th best among 14 SEC teams. South Carolina starts playing on the SEC on Wednesday at 9 pm, featuring Texas A&M (No. 97 on NET) on ESPNU. The opening of the conference was supposed to be against Kentucky on the road on December 29, but the game was postponed due to the suspension of team activity in Columbia due to the positive results of the COVID-19 test.

Dawn StaleyThe squad is 6-1 in the season, with wins over College of Charleston, North Dakota, Gonzaga (No. 21 at the time), Iowa State (No. 23 at the time), Temple and a SEC opening defeat over Florida on New Year’s Eve. The only defeat was at home against NC State (No. 8 at the time). Gamecocks are ranked 5th in the AP Top 25, the highest ranking for a losing team. The next game is Monday in Alabama at 7 pm on the SEC Network.
