Two of the most critically acclaimed games of the 2010s are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Red Dead Redemption 2. Both inspired the open world video games that have emerged since then, but it is also possible that they could learn from each other. Nintendo hasn’t released another open-world game since Red Dead Redemption 2release of, and according to a developer, the Breath of the Wild the development team took inspiration from Rockstar’s cowboy game.
Therefore, Red Dead Redemption 2 could influence Breath of the Wild 2 in some major ways. One mechanic that can make the transition well is camping system, a new concept that would adapt very well.
The connection between Breath of the Wild 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 was first established in 2019. In an interview with IGN, series producer Eiji Aonuma was asked what the younger developers working on the project were playing. “[Something] I heard that many people were playing Red Dead Redemption 2,” he said.
Although he did not suggest how the Zelda sequence can be influenced by Red Dead Redemption 2, he continued to point out how Skyrim had a big impact on the first game. Obviously, he followed some tips from Skyrim ‘it’s an open nature, but Aonuma said that Red Dead Redemption 2 suggests that the game could have some kind of impact in the aftermath.
When looking at the mechanics of Red Dead Redemption 2 that could work well in Breath of the Wild 2, the camp system is the main candidate. Inside Red Dead Redemption 2, Arthur Morgan’s gang is mainly in a camp. In this location, players can interact with other characters and start side missions, play minigames, change Arthur’s appearance and even donate money to improve the game.
It was a new system, but it still has a lot of room for improvement. The camp is restarted several times over the course of Red Dead Redemption 2, make progress seem less valuable. Updating the camp is also never necessary for the story, making this activity more tangential than it should.
What if Breath of the Wild 2 find a way to solve these problems, the game could have an even better version of this system. If Zelda isn’t traveling with Link, maybe she (along with other characters) can stay in a larger camp on the map. Players can visit this location to get missions, meet different characters and get updates, just like in Red Dead Redemption 2.
To like Red Dead Redemption 2, players must also be able to update their camp in Breath of the Wild 2. This could not only make it bigger and more beautiful, but it would also add more features and updates for Link to use. If it is never destroyed or moved, this progression will seem more significant than in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Another improvement could be rewarding players with weapons or special abilities that would be good against bosses or the game’s final encounter. This would make the camp mechanic feel much more intrinsic to the Breath of the Wild 2 and would encourage players to get very involved with the mechanics, unlike Red Dead Redemption 2.
Game developers are constantly learning from each other and the best games on the market, so it’s no surprise that a critically acclaimed or best-selling title as Red Dead Redemption 2 would influence the sequence of Breath of the Wild. It remains to be seen whether this happens with the camp system or some other part of the Breath of the Wild 2design philosophy of.
