Covid-19 in NY: positive rate continues to increase as almost 8,000 hospitalized

New York’s positive case rate rose to almost 8% on Saturday, while another 11,368 people tested positive for the coronavirus, according to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office.

This is based on the return of 142,345 tests on Saturday – a positive rate of 7.98%.

Last week, an average of 7.78% of tests tested positive each day, according to Cuomo’s office.

That weekly rate is also rising in downtown New York, according to state data. Here, the seven-day average is 8.9%, compared to 8.21% just two days ago.

Nearly 8,000 people are hospitalized across the state. Of these 7,963 patients, 1,344 are in intensive care.

Another 138 people died in the state, Cuomo said. The state reported 30,476 deaths from Covid-19.
