As the launch date for the Samsung Galaxy S21 on January 14 approaches more and more, we are still receiving information that leaks about what to expect – and it looks like the S series will abandon the expandable storage option this year.
Known informant Roland Quandt adopted Twitter to suggest that none of the S21 models will come with a memory card reader, although all S20 phones give users the option of inserting a card to increase storage capacity.
Support for expandable storage is something that Samsung has repeated and retreated over the years, but it seems that now its time is up. With the increase in integrated storage capacity and the norm for cloud streaming services, it may be thought that local storage is no longer as important as before.

Still, it is a feature that many smartphone buyers are looking for, even if it is not offered by devices like the Apple iPhone and Google Pixel devices. The feature can act as a safety net if you are about to reach the limit of storage space on your smartphone.
About that included charger …
The packaged smartphone charger saga has also taken another turn, with Quandt also saying that “some markets may still have a charger [for the S21] in the box, while others don’t. “
You should remember that Apple started the trend to make extra smartphone chargers optional, which benefits both the environment and the company’s profit margins – which has attracted some mockery from some of its competitors.
Now it looks like these competitors are following suit, with Xiaomi and Samsung among those who will abandon the integrated charger in 2021. If Quandt is right, some markets may still have a Samsung Galaxy S21 charger in the box, after all.
Most sources are aiming for a January 14 revelation for the Galaxy S21, and even the invitation to the event has now leaked. If the expandable storage media is falling, be sure to purchase a model that has all the capacity you need.
