These NFL coaches may not be back in 2021, says an insider

Week 17 of the 2020 NFL season could be the last time several coaches will be left out of their respective teams, as some will be eliminated after Sunday’s games.

FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer detailed in the FOX NFL pre-match program which coaches were safe, who were in the bubble and those who should not be returning next season.

Anthony Lynn, of the Los Angeles Chargers, Adam Gase, of the New York Jets, and Doug Marrone, of the Jacksonville Jaguars, are the current coaches who are not expected to be back in 2021, although nothing has been made official or finalized so far.

Glazer added that he does not think the three interim head coaches – Raheem Morris of the Atlanta Falcons, Romeo Crennel of the Houston Texans and Darrell Bevell of the Detroit Lions – would be made permanent head coaches.

Matt Nagy of The Bears was placed in Glazer’s “time will tell” category. The Chicago Bears is on the verge of a playoff spot, but needs to beat the Green Bay Packers to solidify a spot. It’s been a season of ups and downs for the Bears, but on Sunday they won three consecutive games.

Glazer said Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson and Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor are considered “safe”. He said Pederson may need to make some changes to his coaching staff. Meanwhile, Taylor won just six games before Week 17, but there should be another season in Cincinnati.

Defensive coordinator for Baltimore Ravens Wink Martindale, defensive coordinator for San Francisco 49ers Robert Saleh, defensive coordinator for Tampa Bay Buccaneers Todd Bowles, defensive coordinator for Los Angeles Rams Brandon Staley, offensive coordinator for Tennessee Titans Arthur Smith, offensive coordinator for Buffalo Bills Brian Daboll , Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and offensive coordinator Carolina Panthers Joe Brady were nominated as some of the coach candidates.

Glazer said college coaches Pat Fitzgerald, Urban Meyer, Jim Harbaugh, PJ Fleck and Matt Campbell have been gaining interest, as did former Bengals coach Marvin Lewis.
