Georgia’s football looked like one of the top 10 in the dominant victory over South Carolina on Saturday. What did we learn from the beating?
A lot was done this week when the Georgia Bulldogs checked in ninth in the College Football Playoff’s initial ranking and was met with some skepticism after the Bulldogs barely managed to win two victories for the Mississippi State team last week.
This week, Georgia was much more dominant and looked like a team in the top 10 against a team from South Carolina that doesn’t seem to have much to lose for the season.
This was a rematch game for Georgia, after losing to the Gamecocks last season, when the Bulldogs were in the top three in Athens. I thought this would be a game in which Georgia would go out and play in anger and I was right about that.
Georgia scored frequently and quickly at the start of this game and ran for a 21-0 lead before South Carolina managed to score a touchdown to make the game 21-7.
South Carolina turned to freshman quarterback Luke Doty after his first action last week against Missouri and the young quarterback played admirably, considering his circumstances. Doty did not have much help in the racing game and this put him on some difficult passes that led UGA to release the athletic passes that they have been coming from the edge.
Georgia ran the ball much better than a week ago against the state of Mississippi, attacking the Gamecock defense repeatedly for big gains. Georgia’s offensive line had its best performance of the season, paving the way for running backs and giving JT Daniels plenty of time to launch the ball.
Georgia hopes to end the strong season and move on to a possible New Year’s Six bowl game, and South Carolina looked like it was already looking towards 2021.
