If Carson Wentz gets his chance, he will not return to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021.
At least, that’s what Chris Mortensen’s latest report suggests. The veteran NFL insider said the following during an ESPN televised segment on Sunday morning:
“Carson Wentz, your relationship with the Eagles is practically broken. In fact, it is fractured. Wentz is expected to ask the Eagles for an exchange. It will help eagles to facilitate trade. Jeffrey Lurie’s reaction will be vital to this one. But Wentz clearly wants to get out of Philadelphia and start from scratch in some other way. This will be a great story in the off-season. “
ESPN’s Adam Schefter previously reported that Wentz wanted to “move on” if the Eagles continued to initiate Jalen Hurts in the quarterback, which they have been doing.
It is important to note that Wentz does not have much of an advantage in forcing him out of Philadelphia. If the Eagles want to keep him, he will have to play for them or stay out and lose a lot of money.
Do the Eagles really want to keep a disgruntled and expensive quarterback around? Maybe they will, if they really believe that it “can be repaired”.
But perhaps Wentz’s reported willingness to help facilitate an exchange outside Philadelphia will help the Eagles decide to stay away from him. $ 15 million of Wentz’s salary in 2022 becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2021 league year, so the Eagles have a short window to execute a deal (unless Wentz is willing to postpone that date to give the Eagles more time).
Needless to say, it will be very interesting to see what happens to Wentz in this off-season. If Doug Pederson is really expected to be back in 2021, as has been reported, it is hard to imagine Wentz coming back as well. This relationship just doesn’t seem conducive to success in the future.
The Eagles have some very important decisions to make this off-season and none greater than those they make as a defender.

UPDATE: On the Wentz commercial front, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also had the following to say:
“My understanding is that Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, if he really is on the block and negotiated, would prefer Indy [Indianapolis Colts] in several other places. He may be involved in this process during the [offseason].
No surprise here, given Frank Reich’s obvious connection.
