NEW HUDSON, MI – Three people died after a small plane crashed into a New Hudson home, setting the structure on fire, police said.
The three who died would be considered the pilot of the plane and two passengers, according to a tweet from Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard.
The plane crashed sometime before 4 pm on Saturday, January 2, in a neighborhood west of Pontiac Trail and Grand River Avenue, in the Orchards of Lyon subdivision. The house is on Dakota Drive.
Firefighters from the municipality of Lyon responded to extinguish the flames. Initially, the house was reported to be totally engulfed in flames.
Bouchard’s office said it was believed that everyone in the house was out.
The neighborhood is a short drive from Oakland / Southwest Airport along the Pontiac trail.
Photos posted on the Facebook page of the Lyon Fire Department show that the plane appeared to hit the side of the house. The wreckage was on the ground and the front of the plane appeared to be inside a section of the house.
