Walmart shooting suspect in custody in Virginia after allegedly injuring 3 people

The incident began when two loss prevention agents at Walmart allegedly observed a man stealing items from the store and attempted to escort him to an office, according to a statement from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Two deputies responded to try to take the man into custody, the statement said. During a fight, the suspect pulled a gun from his waist and reportedly started shooting, hitting two loss prevention officers and one of the two deputies, according to the sheriff’s office.

The second deputy responded, hitting the suspect, officials said.

“I don’t know what the injuries were, certainly not serious enough to stop him from running, jumping into a truck and leaving,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Michael Chapman.

The truck was parked behind the store with the keys inside, according to the sheriff’s office.

A vehicle chase ensued, and the Fairfax County Police Department, following a lookout alert on a stolen vehicle, arrested the suspect, the sheriff’s office said.

The man was taken to a hospital and the charges are pending, according to authorities.

Chapman said the suspect is a 20-something man, according to CNN affiliate WJLA.

All of the victims’ injuries are not life-threatening, but the deputy was shot and hit several times, Chapman said.
