Dead man, 4 others injured after semi-truck plowing through wall, at home in Mesa

One person died and four others were injured after a truck hit a sound barrier and hit a Mesa home.

According to the Bureau of Police Bureau, a semi-truck was traveling east on US 60 near Crismon Road at 7 pm on December 31 when it left the highway in Crismon, did not stop and hit the house.

There were 10 people inside the house at the time of the accident and one, Todd Welliver, 50, was pronounced dead in a hospital. None of the other residents are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and the damage has not been ruled out, however, no charges have been filed against the driver of the semi-truck at the time. Investigators believe the driver may have had a medical emergency before the accident.

Mesa police said the accident caused a hazardous situation due to the fuel leak. The Crismon access ramp to the east of the US-60 was closed for some time after the accident.

FOX 10 found that the truck involved in the accident belongs to a California company. FOX 10 contacted On Land Transport for comment, but the company’s employees have not yet responded.

Meanwhile, police say no charges have been filed against the driver at this time.

A grieving family member speaks loudly

On January 1, FOX 10 spoke to Welliver’s fiance, Ginger McDonald.

“We were just starting to plan our future together,” said McDonald.

Welliver was in his garage with McDonald’s when the incident happened.

“Bang and things started to fall on me,” said McDonald.

McDonald, like Welliver’s close friends, are in shock. They are remembering the man with whom they shared so many memories.

“He was my other half. I mean, we balanced it out,” said McDonald.

“He’s just relaxed, happy enjoying life, living it day after day, doing anything and everything for anyone,” said friend Charlotte Smith.

McDonald now expects answers soon as to the reason for this tragedy.

“I have to live the rest of my life now without Todd, and I don’t understand why,” said McDonald.
