Winner: Final Fantasy VII Remake
Revisiting Final Fantasy VII it would always be a difficult task. How do you meet fans’ expectations after years of anticipation and decades of nostalgia? By focusing on one slice of the game at a time, the team created opportunities to invest a lot of time and attention in each moment and story. Everything is bigger and more detailed. The gaps that your mind filled a long time ago have been fully realized. It will take some time to tell the whole story, but if this first episode is any indication, the series will be a successor worthy of the original work. Even by itself, it is our Game of the Year 2020.
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
13 Sentinels it’s a lot of reading. It is a lot of study and consideration. It rewards the time you invest in your world with more details and nuances. This makes it a great game for a year when many players wanted to get lost in an engaging story! The fact that he slowly but surely starts using this world to say something deeper about society as you delve into its tradition is something really special.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
So many people have escaped to the idyllic islands of New Horizons in 2020 and it’s easy to see why. Of course, the world has prepared many people to take the first digital seaplane wherever it went, but the most complete Cross between animals game has always received them with terraforming, enhanced online resources and a ton of customization. Its pace gave players a daily break and their updates provided them with new things to come back and try.
