Mobile gamers in China have seen many games disappear recently for a variety of reasons. For example, Apple just removed 39,000 games from its App Store because they did not have an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) from the Chinese government. Many western titles were included in the purge, including Assassin’s Creed identity and NBA 2K20, leaving only 74 of the 1,500 most paid games.
As usual in cases like this, it is the users who end up suffering. “We are communicating and negotiating a solution with Huawei’s mobile gaming platform and we hope to resume our services as soon as possible,” said Tencent in a statement.
Update (11:30 ET): Reuters reports that Tencent’s games have been restored after further negotiations, with a statement by the company that “both sides will continue to work together to bring better experiences and services to consumers”.
