DeSantis showboat does it again

For the publisher:

It looks like our showboat governor did it again.
Blows into The Villages with one of its “I’m not wonderful” media events. Last week, he attended the UF Health Hospital to outline his distribution plan for the COVID vaccine. Announce that it will go against the CDC guidelines and have the next wave of vaccines available to those over 65. It seems like a reasonable decision. He gives the impression that he supports the right people to get the vaccine as soon as possible.
But now, here’s the good part: Lake and Marion counties have announced their distribution plans – but Sumter County (where most Villages are located) has so far had no plans because they don’t know what and when it will be. county distribution. But the showboat appears in The Villages with no allocation plan for the vast majority of its residents.
So the showboat has the audacity to stay behind and watch while five non-essential items are vaccinated. This group included a loser in the recent election of county supervisor and two community development supervisors, as well as two more non-essentials.
The outrageous irritation of two elected community development supervisors putting themselves in front of the group to be vaccinated is disgusting. They must be ashamed of themselves and their selfish actions must not go unnoticed. (Full disclosure – I am an elected supervisor in the Community Development District 2 – my ethics would not have allowed me to be ahead of the residents who elected me). The right thing for the showboat to do would be to go to an area nursing home and show a resident being vaccinated.
As I suggested earlier, DeSantis should have stayed a long way from The Villages when he staged the fake launch test on the polo fields. He entered the city – made a great effort to start the tests – he left the city and promptly there were no tests available.
To be clear, this is not a Republican or Democratic issue – it is simply my opinion of another supreme example of exhibitionism and disgusting self-interest and failed judgment on the part of some elected officials.
Now, some good news. The Sumter County Health Department deserves great praise for the excellent service they now provide for COVID testing. It’s easy and free, without the need for insurance. Just call the Sumter County Health Department (352-569-3102) and request an appointment. The test is available at The Villages in the annex in Morse and 466.
