Another 13 Mainers died while health officials reported on Thursday 702 new cases of coronavirus across the state.
Thursday’s report raises the total number of coronavirus cases in Maine to 24,201, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s 23,499 on Tuesday.
Of these, 20,637 were confirmed as positive, while 3,564 were classified as “probable cases”, reported the Maine CDC.
The latest deaths include a man in his 80s, a woman in his 60s, a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 90s in Aroostook County; a woman in her 80s and two women in her 90s in Cumberland County; a woman in her 80s in Hancock County; one man in his 50s and two men in his 70s in Oxford County; and a man in his 80s and a man in his 90s in York County. The death toll across the state is now 347.
Maine’s seven-day average for new coronavirus cases is 426.9, down from 431.6 the previous day and 460.6 the previous day, but above 172 the previous month.
New cases have been reported in Androscoggin (51), Aroostook (32), Cumberland (178), Franklin (2), Hancock (19), Kennebec (48), Knox (9), Lincoln (5), Oxford (19), Penobscot (79), Piscataquis (5), Sagadahoc (20), Somerset (6), Waldo (2), Washington (20) and York (215) counties, show state data.
To date, 1,065 Maine residents have been hospitalized at some point with COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. As of Wednesday, 177 people are hospitalized, with 48 in critical care and 19 in ventilators.
Another 48 people recovered from the coronavirus, bringing the total number of Mainers who recovered to 11,374. This means that there are at least 12,480 active cases in the state, down from 11,839 on Wednesday.
As of Thursday, 27,122 Maine residents have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
There were 1,177,522 negative test results out of 1,207,730 in total. About 2.4 percent of all tests were positive, data from the Maine CDC show.
Coronavirus hit most heavily in Cumberland County, where 7,233 cases were reported and where most virus deaths – 97 – were concentrated. Other cases have been reported in Androscoggin (2,667), Aroostook (617), Franklin (451), Hancock (550), Kennebec (1,812), Knox (370), Lincoln (301), Oxford (1,115), Penobscot (2,050), Piscataquis (117), Sagadahoc (387), Somerset (743), Waldo (380), Washington (377) and York (5,030) counties. Information on where an additional case was reported was not immediately available.
As of Thursday morning, the coronavirus had sicked 19,745,885 people in all 50 states, in the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the US Virgin Islands, in addition to causing 342,414 deaths, from according to Johns Hopkins University of Medicine.
