Lexington police investigating situation in the center; asking people to avoid the area

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Lexington police are asking people to avoid downtown Short and Market St.

In a tweet, police said they were investigating an incident in the area.

The Kentucky Traffic Management Center says Main St. appears to be closed between MLK and Broadway, and all streets that cross it are also closed. Limestone is disconnected between Vine and Church St.

We have a team on the corner of Main and Limestone, which is as close as the police allow people and drivers.

The police evacuated bars, restaurants and other buildings in the city center.

We talked to a former WKYT employee who was at a bar downtown when the police came in asking everyone to leave as soon as possible.

We are still waiting to speak to the Lexington police to get a better idea of what is going on.

This story is developing.
