LeBron James is known for many things, but perhaps his greatest feature as a basketball player is his incomprehensible consistency. James practically never loses games. The Lakers star is hardly bad. The statistical fact was confirmed on Wednesday, which also happens on his 36th birthday, when he scored his 10th point in the second quarter against the San Antonio Spurs. That made James the first player in NBA history to score at least 10 points in 1,000 consecutive regular season games.
The moment came about six minutes before the end of the second half. James equalized on the post against Keldon Johnson, stepped back and landed an easy hook for two quick points.
The streak of more than 1,000 consecutive 10-point games is notable, but James broke the previous league record some time ago. Michael Jordan has held him back by scoring at least 10 points in 866 consecutive games. The second longest active streak belongs to James Harden in 411 straight games. The sequence itself is the equivalent of almost 12.2 consecutive full seasons. Hall of Fame members like Isiah Thomas and James Worthy haven’t even played 1,000 regular season games in their entire careers.
Virtually all records involving longevity are likely to belong to James when all is said and done. He is about 4,000 points from becoming the NBA’s all-time top scorer, and has 342 games, or about five seasons with the occasional sprinkled absence, short of playing the most games in league history. If he continues at his current pace, almost all the albums in the book will be yours someday. This is just another piece of history that James has managed to make, a testament to the consistency that will probably never be matched in NBA history.
