Blizzard Entertainment is preparing itself once again for the return of Diablo III’s The Darkening of Tristram event, the annual celebration that takes players back to the old days of Diablo. Players will be able to recap their steps back to the βearly days of Diablo,β according to Blizzard, while also gaining new items along the way. The Darkening of Tristram 2020 event is scheduled to start on December 31st, with more stages of the event unfolding in the following days.
On the Blizzard website for the latest main Diablo game, Blizzard outlined plans for Diablo III’s Tristram blackout event. It will start on December 31 at 4pm PST, when players encounter a group of trouble-making cultists at the Sanctuary before a portal opens on January 3, allowing players to delve deeper into the event. The blackout of Tristram is scheduled to continue thereafter until 31 January.

“Your journey begins on the trail of a group of mysterious cultists who cause trouble at the Sanctuary,” said Blizzard of the future Diablo III event. “As you hunt them in Adventure Mode, you’ll discover clues that lead to a portal to Tristram’s past and the terrible darkness that has taken over the city so many years ago …”
Players can take that portal that will open in a few days to return to a cathedral that was present in the original Diablo games. A Butcher pet, banners, transmog effects and more rewards await inside the cathedral for those who are able to find them.
“While some rewards are easy to find, others can make you search every corner or unlock all achievements before getting your hands on them,” teased Blizzard. βCan you win them all? There is only one way to find out! “
Diablo III’s The Darkening of Tristram event is scheduled to start on December 31 and will be fully underway on January 3.
