Despite several positive COVID-19 tests within the Browns organization, the NFL expects Cleveland to host Sunday’s Steelers-Browns game as scheduled.
In a media call today focusing on the league’s ongoing response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, league officials said the game can be played safely in Cleveland.
The league insisted it would not postpone games for competitive reasons. So, for example, if the Browns were in a similar situation to the Broncos, when they had to shelve all their quarterbacks and use the wide receiver Kendall Hinton to train in the quarterback, the NFL would still make the Browns play on Sunday. Only if it was considered unsafe to play the game would the league postpone it.
The NFL says the Browns did not have an outbreak inside their facilities, but have just had several people in the organization exposed to COVID-19 in the community. This would not be seen as a reason to postpone the game. And so it looks like the game started.
