Dwayne Haskins is not claimed in the resignations

even though Dwayne Haskins leaving the 2019 recruiting chart as No. 15 overall, he is a free agent just 18 months later. The second year quarterback was not claimed by resignations on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of the NFL.com tweets.

Washington dismissed Haskins less than 24 hours after starting him in Week 16 against the Panthers. The one-year-old ex-Ohio sensation is no longer tied to his four-year rookie contract.

Although Haskins has not been claimed, Washington still owes him the balance of that fully guaranteed rookie deal. In addition to the dead money from Haskins’ signing bonus, his base salaries of $ 1.8 million (2021) and $ 2.46 million (2022) will be on Washington’s payroll.

The team defeated a defender in the first round for the first time since Robert Griffin III in 2012 – a movement influenced by Daniel Snyder and endorsed by the then team president Bruce Allen, but opposed by then-HC Jay Gruden – but Haskins is already trying to start over. Bad play and two breaches of the COVID-19 protocol led to his dismissal in Washington. The now-Ron Rivera-run team was willing to trade Haskins before this year’s deadline and only reinstated him in his initial lineup because of Alex Smithcalf injury from. Smith’s injury in 2018 prompted Washington to summon Haskins just a year after negotiating with Smith and granting him a four-year extension.

Washington will turn to Smith or ex-UDFA Taylor Heinicke in a Week 17 death or death game in Philadelphia. Rivera said Smith was close to returning last week, a good omen for his prospects of taking Washington to its first playoff spot since 2015.
