First introduced in Apex Legends Season 3, Crypto remains a mostly situational Legend due to his abilities. A post on Reddit by ‘u / Cryptic_Crane72D1’ provides several ideas on how Respawn could buff the character to improve its viability.
Balancing all characters in Apex Legends remains a difficult task for the Respawn team. The developer often explains his thinking process for implementing buffs and nerfs, and even confirmed that some Legends will never be viable at the highest level of play.
Despite this, the Apex community continues to provide feedback on how their favorite characters can be improved. In a post on Reddit by u / Cryptic_Crane72D1, this Crypto player provides developers with some ideas on how to improve Legend’s viability and choice rate.

Despite several buffs, Crypto has remained a mostly situational character since it was introduced in season 3.
Rework of the passive ability of encryption
Crypto’s liability is its Surveillance Drone, which allows the player and his teammates to locate the enemies marked by the Drone. The creator of the concept argues that this is not a true liability because, in fact, it is linked to Crypto’s tactic and suggests two alternatives to help improve the kit.
The user’s “Out of the Network” idea would allow the ‘Surveillance Specialist’ to partially avoid detection by skills from other Legends (such as the Bloodhound scan). Instead of detaching it, enemies would see a special notification that an enemy was detected, without revealing its location.
Another idea would allow him to see how many squads are nearby all the time, instead of having to scan the champions’ banners with his drone. The player admits that this particular skill can be very powerful, but still thinks it is a way to improve the character.

Crypto’s tactical skill rework
Crypto’s tactical skill revolves around his Drone, allowing him to fly around the map and search for enemies, pick up teammate flags and mark potential threats for his squad. However, while he is in Drone mode, the Legend cannot move until he exits the Drone.
According to Redditor, the use of Drone interrupts the flow of combat and prevents players from contributing to team fights. To resolve this, he proposes an alternative that would streamline the process and allow the character to remain mobile when using his tactic.
The proposed solution would allow players to control the Drone remotely, but also to deploy it without entering a separate mode. Players can throw away their bot to scan a specific area while remaining mobile and avoid any major separation from their team.

The final capacity of Crypto rework
The final problem outlined in the post is related to the final ability of Crypto: the EMP explosion of his Drone. Although the EMP can be a powerful skill, the user still finds it very difficult for him to deploy the explosion effectively and then accompany his team on the attack.
The proposed solution would be to allow the Surveillance Specialist to deploy the EMP explosion without using his Drone. This would be done by separating the ultimate from his Drone and giving him a separate EMP grenade – something that Respawn showed in the character’s reveal trailer.
Turning your ultimate into a launchable would allow your EMP blast to be deployed without going into Drone mode. This refers to the Redditor’s idea of making the character more mobile and able to contribute during team battles.

One suggestion for improving Cryptography is to separate your final EMP ability from your Drone.
The post was well received on the Apex Legends subreddit, gathering 1,500 positive votes at the time of writing. Many of the responses were positive and agreed that the current Crypto kit makes it too slow and prevents you from fighting alongside your team.
Although most of the responses were positive, there was also some criticism. One user replied: “How about we improve the real characters who need it. Rampart literally has the lowest rate of choice, ”and another pointed out the respawning advantages that Crypto has with its Drone.
Respawn hasn’t commented on the post yet, but has already said they are looking for ways to improve it in the coming seasons. With Legends like Bloodhound being polished to the point of almost constant use, Surveillance Expert may receive the same treatment at some point in the future.
