Here’s today’s update for COVID-19 from the County Human Services and Health Agency with data as of December 27.
ICU capacity and order of stay at home:
- The current ICU capacity for southern California is 0.0% and will be updated daily by the state.
- O Regional home stay order it remains in force and prohibits meetings of any size with people from other families and adds restrictions for various sectors.
- The request will remain in effect until the capacity of the region’s ICU reaches or exceeds 15%.
Community configuration outbreaks:
- No new community outbreaks were confirmed on December 27.
- Ten new community outbreaks were confirmed on December 26: six in commercial settings, two in healthcare settings, one in an emergency services setting and one in a community setting.
- Nine new outbreaks in the community were confirmed on December 25: four in commercial settings, two in healthcare settings, two in religious agency settings and one in a distribution depot environment.
- Fourteen new community outbreaks were confirmed on December 24: three in commercial settings, three in healthcare settings, three in religious agency settings, one in a daycare / preschool / daycare center, one in a preschool environment, one in an environmental distribution deposit, one in a restaurant and the other in a hotel / resort / spa.
- In the past seven days (December 21-27), 59 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
- The number of outbreaks in the community remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
- An outbreak in a community setting is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in an environment and in people from different families in the past 14 days.
Test:
- 18,972 exams were notified to the county on December 27, and the percentage of new laboratory confirmed cases was 9%.
- The average continuous percentage of positive cases over 14 days is 10.4%. The target is less than 8.0%.
- The daily average of 7-day tests is 23,668.
- People at higher risk for COVID-19 with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should get tested. Healthcare professionals and essentials should also be tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are being highly affected. Those who have recently returned from a trip or who have participated in festive events should also take the test.
Cases:
- 1,751 new cases were reported to the county on December 27. The total for the region is now 147,530.
- 5,743 or 3.9% of all cases required hospitalization.
- 1,201 or 0.8% of all cases and 20.9% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.
Deaths:
- Two new deaths from COVID-19 were reported to the county on December 27. The total for the region is now 1,404.
- Two men died between 20 and 21 December, and their ages ranged between 30 and 60 years.
- Both had underlying medical conditions.
- Twenty new COVID-19 deaths were reported to the county on December 24.
- Six women and 14 men died between 18 and 24 December, and their ages ranged from 50 to 90 years.
- Seventeen had underlying medical conditions and one did not. Two have pending medical histories.
