The Los Angeles Rams will now have to turn to John Wolford to make the playoffs.
Rams quarterback Jared Goff underwent surgery on his right thumb on Monday after breaking it in his 20-9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon, the team announced. Wolford will now start in his place.

The team is also planning to bring Blake Bortles to support Wolford.
Goff broke and dislocated his thumb during the defeat in Seattle, after hitting him on the helmet of Benson Mayowa on the defensive side of the Seahawks. Goff finished the game – he was seen putting his thumb back in place after moving it – and made 24 of 43 to 234 yards with an interception.
The Rams need to beat the Cardinals on Sunday to ensure they make it into the postseason. If they lose, the Rams need the Green Bay Packers to beat the Chicago Bears.
Wolford, a former Wake Forest standout, has yet to play an NFL game. Most recently, he led the Arizona Hotshots at AAF last year, before the league was closed. He will be the first defender to make his debut with a team in the last week of the season with a playoff game in play since 2013.
Should the Rams make it into the postseason, the hope is that Goff will be ready to go.
