Fever, chills and headaches are some common side effects of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. But recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has noted that people with cosmetic facial fillers may experience swelling as well as inflammation with this vaccine.
An FDA advisory committee said that several participants in the Modern vaccine trial with fillers complained about side effects after the injection. Some patients received cheek filling six months before receiving the vaccine. One participant underwent lip filling just two days after receiving the injection. But, according to a California dermatologist, the reaction was immunological.

Health care professional Dr. Shirley Chi said that the immune system that causes inflammation is accelerated when you get the vaccine. This is how it should work. “So it makes sense for you to see an immune response in certain areas where they see some substance that is not a natural substance in your body,” added Dr. Chi.
However, she also said that side effects should not prevent people from receiving the Modern vaccine, which is 94.1 percent effective in preventing COVID-19 disease in people who received two doses. Dr. Chi said that in these recent cases, these people developed swelling and inflammation in the area that received the pad. “All were treated with steroids and antihistamines and all reactions were resolved,” he added.

Last week, on December 18, Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine received emergency FDA approval. Later, Canada also approved the vaccine and Health Canada’s top medical advisor said the country will receive up to 168,000 doses before the end of December. Meanwhile, Yokota Air Force Base, west of Tokyo, headquarters of the US Forces in Japan and the 374th Air Wing, as well as Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, headquarters of the 18th Wing, received shipments of the Modern vaccine on Saturday, December 26th.
It is a two-dose vaccine administered approximately one month apart through an injection. The doses inject a molecule called mRNA, which includes instructions for the body on how to develop antibodies to fight infection with Coronavirus. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Moderna’s vaccine appeared to be highly effective in clinical trials (efficacy) among people of various age, sex, race and ethnicity categories and among people with underlying health conditions .
Like others, the COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna can also cause some side effects, such as pain, redness at the injection site, as well as chills and tiredness. The CDC said, “These side effects usually begin within a day or two after vaccination. They may look like flu-like symptoms and may even affect your ability to perform daily activities, but they should go away in a few days.” However, the unusual side effects of the injection in test subjects with cosmetic facial fillers have recently been revealed.
