Just before this year’s Thanksgiving Day, Google updated food displays named on Smart Displays to be accompanied by a whimsical illustration of what you’re waiting for. Some Nest Hub timers today are automatically receiving additional Christmas cheer.
As before, just specify a food in front of the “stopwatch” or add it to the end of the Google Assistant command. You will hear a brief tinkle of sleigh bells as soon as it is confirmed and the countdown begins.
These Christmas edition timers see various holiday foods and drinks accompanied by a gingerbread man peering through the bottom of his Nest Hub. The cookie only partially obstructs the stopwatch and countdown ring.
Some more generic (but topical) foods, such as potatoes and hot cocoa, also automatically receive this treatment. This is probably just for the holidays, otherwise it would be quite unexpected. At 00, there is a last touch of whimsy in the form of several goodies watering your screen like a delicious melody play.
From the different (devouring) jingle to the final food spray, these are different themes from the Thanksgiving edition. If you set a turkey timer, you’ll still get the previous version. It would be great for Google to continue adding more throughout the year.
Meanwhile, the various generics for different food categories (pizza, pasta, chicken, coffee / tea) are still available. They greatly assist the ability to view and manage multiple timers.
