The Los Angeles Lakers is optimistic about newcomer Dennis Schroder.
Although the organization has not yet seen Schroder play in its squad for even a month, it plans to sign the owner for an extension of the contract.
“The Los Angeles Lakers began to engage with initial owner Dennis Schroder in contract extension negotiations, and these discussions are expected to start again in mid-February, sources told ESPN,” reported Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com.
In fact, the Lakers tried to extend Schroder’s contract even before the 2020-21 campaign started. However, he rejected the Lakers’ generous offer.
“Before the season started, Schroder declined an initial offer from the Lakers to extend his contract for another two years and $ 33.4 million, the sources said – an opening that represented the maximum allowable offer the Lakers could make to him before February 16, ”Wojnarowski wrote.
The Lakers caught Schroder by negotiating Danny Green and a first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Schroder, 27, scored 18.9 points per game in 46.9 percent of field shots last season.
