The South Carolina basketball team got a commitment from a potential local guard player over the weekend.
Jacobi Wright of Greenville, SC pledged his commitment to Frank Martin and the Gamecocks over the weekend. He made the announcement public by posting on his Twitter page. He becomes the second member of the 2021 recruiting class, joining Miami gunfighter Devin Carter.
Wright chose Gamecocks over offers from Charlotte, College of Charleston, DePaul, Elon and Winthrop. He is rated by 247Sports as a three-star prospect and the 191st best player in the 2021 class. He is the 22nd best player in the country in his position and the 6th best basketball player in the state of South Carolina.
The combo’s owner attended Legacy Charter High School last season, where he managed 17.4 points per game, in addition to distributing an average of 5.3 assists per game. One of his former teammates is South Carolina striker Jalyn McCreary.
Wright joins a group of deep positions that include AJ Lawson, Trae Hannibal, Jermaine Couisnard, TJ Moss and the Seventh Woods undergraduate protractor. But with Woods moving forward after this season, and Lawson being a possible entry into the NBA draft, Wright may have the opportunity to contribute as soon as he arrives on campus.
With the effort, the South Carolina class moves up to the 1st position in the SEC and the 10th nationally. Gamecocks are currently the only team at the conference with a pledge from several recruits. Coach Frank Martin will try to block the state and close the class tightly, while chasing local targets John Butler and Cesare Edwards.
