Tammy Slaton and her sister Amy are the stars of the TLC series 1000 Lb Sisters. Equal to My 600 lb life, the series follows the Slaton sisters on their journey to lose weight. Season 2 is not over yet, but some fans have noticed something about Tammy’s health. In her posts on TikTok, she seems to be on oxygen. 1000 Lb Sisters fans want to know – why is Tammy taking oxygen?
Tammy Slaton did not have surgery to lose weight
The reality show TLC follows the Slaton sisters, who first gained attention for their YouTube channel. 1st season of 1000 Lb Sisters aired in 2020, with the second season airing on January 4, 2021.
The first season followed the sisters as they met with Dr. Proctor, a bariatric surgeon who agreed to conduct the surgery on Tammy and Amy if they could achieve their weight loss goals. Amy managed to reach the weight goal Dr. Proctor set for her and had surgery. By the end of the first season, Amy had lost over 120 pounds. Tammy was on his way to reaching his ideal weight, but then the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) appeared.
Tammy Slaton gained weight during the pandemic
As documented in season 2 of 1000 pound sisters, Tammy struggled to follow her diet during the pandemic. After meeting with Dr. Proctor and assessing his weight gain, he referred Tammy to another bariatric surgeon closer to his hometown in Kentucky. He felt that, being in Georgia, he couldn’t monitor Tammy’s health as closely as he would like. By referring Tammy to a doctor closer to home, Dr. Proctor hopes that Tammy will be able to achieve his goals and eventually have surgery.
Why is Tammy Slaton taking oxygen?
On November 28, 2020, Tammy shared a video on YouTube in which she explained that she contracted COVID-19 and pneumonia. She was taken to the hospital for care.
“I was in the hospital for about two weeks,” said the TLC star, continuing:
I’m great. I mean, yes, I’m using oxygen. This is just to keep my lungs strong, strength – I won’t be [oxygen] much more time. I had 15 liters of oxygen and now I have three.

Tammy assured fans that she was doing well and thanked her followers for their thoughts and prayers. In another video posted on December 4, 2020, Tammy addressed fans who were not supporting it.
“[Some of] the comments are stupid, ”she said. “There are people saying that I was not in the hospital because of COVID. Don’t always believe everything you read on the internet. It surprises me that everyone thinks so badly of me. ”
Despite what Tammy said in his post about not needing oxygen for much longer, it appears that his levels are still low. In her most recent posts on TikTok, Tammy is still using oxygen.
Some fans are upset with Tammy Slaton for vaporizing while they needed oxygen
In a TikTok posted on January 27 this year, Tammy is not using oxygen, but smoke is coming out of his mouth. The fans assumed that she was vaporizing.
“Tammy, I love you and Amy, but please stop smoking, it’s SUPER bad for you,” commented a follower.
“Tammy, I can hear your panting in the background,” wrote another. “Do not smoke.”
In videos posted after that, Tammy is once again using his oxygen. It is not clear whether this is due to his previous diagnosis of COVID / pneumonia or another health problem that has arisen.
