Walmart Supercenter in Phoenix will be closed for cleaning and sanitizing; plans to reopen on Saturday

PHOENIX – Walmart will temporarily close one of its stores in Phoenix so that teams can clean and sanitize the building.

The Walmart Supercenter located near Bethany Home Road and 15th Avenue will close at 2pm on Thursday, the retailer said in a press release. The store should reopen on Saturday at 7am

The retailer did not provide a specific reason for the unexpected closure, but said it was part of a program initiated by the company to allow outsourced cleaning teams to clean and sanitize the store. Staying closed on the first day also gives employees time to replenish shelves, the company said.

Walmart released the following statement as part of the announcement:

“Everything we are doing is for the well-being of our associates and customers and taking into account the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and health specialists. When the store reopens on Saturday, we will continue to conduct health checks and temperature checks on members, and all members will receive masks and gloves.

These protocols are in addition to the comprehensive measures we implemented during the pandemic to help protect our associates and customers, including the installation of sneeze protectors in the records, temperature checks and mandatory mask use for members, placement of social distance signs and emergency decree leave policy for members who cannot or are uncomfortable going to work. In addition, with the help of our health ambassadors, we will continue to require clients to wear protective facial covers while inside the building.

We will continue to work closely with elected and local health officials, adjusting the way we serve the community, while keeping the health and safety of our customers and associates in mind. “
